Heavy Duty Stainless Steel LogMax® Secondary Clarifiers for Glenelg WWTP

March 27, 2025

Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant processes sewage from over 200,000 people in the southwest region of Adelaide. Recently, the facility underwent upgrade works which included new secondary clarification technology for its D plant process train.

Hydroflux recently designed, fabricated and commissioned two 28M LogMax® clarifier mechanisms with 316SS bridges/wetted parts and Laundershield® covers. The mechanism also included EdiGate EDI and FlocWell distribution wells.

The bridge is supported on the centre column by the roller bearings which facilitates its rotation. It is driven by a peripheral drive system comprising a shaft mounted gear motor driving wheels which run on the concrete wall of the clarifier structure.

The centre mechanism and centre column supports the middle point of the bridge and facilitates its rotation using roller bearings.

The energy dissipation inlet (EdiGate®) reduces the kinetic energy of the influent into the clarifier to reduce its velocity and promote the flocculation process. The flocculation well reduces “shortcutting” of influent to further promote flocculation.

The scum scraper is suspended from the bridge, it directs floating scum from within the clarifier towards the scum skimmer at the end of the bridge. The LogMax® sludge scrapers are designed to approximate a log spiral configuration with the ability to be adjusted to accommodate floor tolerances. A set of Laundershield® covers is secured to the launder wall and protects the launders and weirs from sunlight to minimise formation of algae.
